Many people are choosing to adopt a more sustainable, natural lifestyle for themselves as well as their pets – and why not? Our pets are exposed to just as many pesticides and toxins in the environment as we are! Check out our simple tips you can use for healthier, happier and “greener” pets!
1) Squeaky Clean While Going Green: Natural Shampoos
For both bathing and managing fleas and ticks, there are many natural solutions available. Natural remedies provide a gentler alternative to support your pet’s immune system, eliminate toxins and maintain overall health and well-being.
For Dogs: BeFree Flea Shampoo™ is a cleansing shampoo to help deter fleas, flies and mosquitoes for dogs.
For Cats: Clean-Cat Shampoo w/ Chamomile™ is a non-irritating, calming cleansing shampoo formulated for cats.
2) Choose Toys and Pet Supplies Wisely
Many cat and dog toy manufacturers are now producing toys made from recyclable materials, often are also made from more natural materials. Avoid painted toys, which pose the risk of lead toxicity. Consider making your own toys using natural materials like cotton and catnip, and choose organic toys or those stamped by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The same care should be taken when choosing beds, collars, and other miscellaneous items that your pet may come in constant contact with.
3) Be Clean and Green: Recycle and Repurpose
Rinse empty pet food cans and bags and recycle them. Instead of purchasing doggie waste bags, re-use plastic shopping bags. If pets come in with muddy paws, choose biodegradable cleaning products, or even use a mixture of vinegar and water.
